OpenAssistant is available on Slack for team-wide use. Once installed, your team can interact with your assistant via direct message or add it to channels for coordination.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure:
You have an existing Slack workspace.
You’re logged into your Slack workspace via the desktop app or web browser.
Step-by-Step Installation
Go to Connections
Find the Slack icon and then “Connect to Slack”. You will be redirected to Slack’s OAuth permission screen.
3. Review and Approve Permissions. Slack will display the required permissions to install the Skej app. After reviewing, click Allow to proceed.
The app will install automatically and Skej will be available in your Slack workspace.
Refresh Slack and OpenAssistant will appear under Apps in your sidebar.
Using OpenAssistant in Slack
Once the app is installed, users can:
DM @OpenAssistant to start giving task requests.
Add @OpenAssistant to channels for team collaboration and coordination.
Mention @OpenAssistant in group DMs when you need to put in a scheduling request.
**OpenAssistant does not work in Slack Connect channels with external users**
OpenAssistant responds only when explicitly invoked (e.g., @OpenAssistant tags) and assists with requests in real time.
Disconnecting OpenAssistant
Go back to your Connections
Click Disconnect Slack
Confirm you want to uninstall OpenAssistant from your Slack workspace
Notes
The app only operates in workspaces where it is installed
It does not read messages unless directly invoked
Access is limited to the permissions granted during installation
