Skej Says I'm Busy When I'm Free

Calendars, buffers and limits, all-day events, and connection checks

Skej is telling people you're unavailable, or skipping over times that look wide open on your calendar. Here are the four things to check, in order.

1. Check which calendars you're checking for conflicts

Head to the Calendars tab of your scheduling preferences and review which calendars are selected. Skej treats an existing event on any selected calendar as a conflict, so a shared team calendar, a partner's calendar, or a subscribed holiday calendar can make you look busy.

Deselect anything you don't want Skej checking, and leave only the calendars that reflect your real availability.

2. Check your buffers and meeting limits

Your calendar can look open and still be blocked by your own preferences. Open the Buffers tab and review:

  • Every meeting buffers — padding around each meeting makes the time immediately before and after it unbookable.
  • Block of time buffers — once you hit your maximum stretch of meetings, Skej protects a break before offering more.
  • Daily meeting limits — once you've hit your cap for the day, Skej won't book anything else, even if the rest of the day is empty.

You can always override these for a specific meeting by telling Skej the time you want, e.g. “Skej, I am available Tue at 11am.”

3. Check for all-day events

All-day events on a selected calendar can be read as busy, which blocks out the entire day. Birthdays, out-of-office markers, travel days, and subscribed holiday calendars are the usual culprits.

If you see an all-day event on the day in question, either remove it, move it to a calendar Skej isn't checking, or mark it as free on your calendar.

4. Check your calendar connection

Finally, go to your Connections page and confirm your calendar account is connected and active. Click into the connected account and check that permissions like email and calendar are toggled on, then hit refresh.

If the connection is stale, disconnect the account and connect it again to force a fresh sync.
